Cocoa Trade Ivoire (CTI) was founded by a Swiss trading group in 2007 and became independent in 2012. In addition to cocoa, the company also trades in coffee and frozen fish. CTI is based in Abidjan (economic capital) and receives cocoa from smallholder farmers cooperatives located in the regions of Marahoué, Gôh, Bélier and Lôh-Djiboua. Cote d'Ivoire is currently our 85th largest goods trading partner with $1.6 billion in total (two way) goods trade during 2018. Goods exports totaled $309 million; goods imports totaled $1.2 billion. The U.S. goods trade deficit with Cote d'Ivoire was $937 million in 2018. Clearly, cocoa production is right at the heart of Ivory Coast’s economy. It is such a crucial national industry that the reverse is also true – Ivory Coast is the nerve of the globe’s cocoa trade, supplying roughly a third of the world’s total cocoa and leading the rest of the world by more than half a million tonnes.
